Day 2 of the remodeling

Wednesday, May 2, 2001

Well day 2 is over and so far things are going pretty well.  We had one unplanned for issue pop up though.  When the City approved our deck plans, they stamped the plans with a requirement to poison the soil under the concrete deck for termites.  Not that that is a major expense, but we won't get the ok to pour the concrete until after we produce a certificate that the soil has been treated.  So tomorrow I have to start calling exterminators to get a good price on the one time treatment.  I have time though, since we have not yet finished removing the old deck.

The weather breaks and the roofing company gets started.  Turns out we had a bit of rotten facia wood on the west side of the garage.  Looks like the roof really did need replacing. It appears it was leaking a little where the valley of the 2 roof angles met. We added the wind turbine vents on the back to cool off the attic and lower our air conditioning costs.  They took off the old concrete roof and put down 2 layers of 30 lb roofing paper.  We picked out the shingles and they should get delivered and installed in the next few days.  No work on the deck or pool today.  That's supposed to continue tomorrow.  We will be picking out the pool tile one night this week.
